Dear OM Group Family,
Normally, we start each year with a look back at all OM Group has accomplished, and we make a plan to build on that for the coming year. We measure our success with the number of people we added to our team, the number of contracts we successfully won, and the hours we spent in professional growth. We celebrate holidays, award Semper Deinceps coins, and applaud the milestones of our team members from birthdays to babies. As we grow at a record pace, we marvel each year at how lucky we are to have built a company with a team, a culture and a mission that we are proud to share.
Then the challenges of 2020 descended upon us to show us how truly blessed we really are.
All of us at OM Group had our limits tested, and our priorities reordered this past year. We could not be prouder of what you have accomplished under the most trying of circumstances from COVID-19 to civil unrest and a stressful election season. At the end of that crazy year, the vaccine gave us a glimmer of hope for the future.
As we start 2021, much is still uncertain as the events of the past week have shown us with the attacks on the U.S. Capitol. The United States has always been a beacon of democracy and hope for people all over the world. As a company and as individuals, we do not condone the attack on the democratic way of life in our adopted country. We will continue to stand for equality and justice, and count on the resilience our team has shown throughout the past year.
Your flexibility, reliability and agility have been inspiring to watch – working from home on a moment’s notice, juggling new family obligations such as home schooling and caring for aging parents, and integrating new health protocols. We appreciate how you all continued to press forward working on existing contracts and bidding on new ones, barely missing a beat.
OM Group was recognized for our efforts by earning a spot on two fastest growing lists this year – #643 on the Inc. 5000 and #3 on the Washington Technology Fast 50. In response to our growth, we expanded our senior leadership team. Senior Vice President Aaron Tilock joined us to create and establish structure and processes to enable our business development and proposal management teams scale and deliver on the growth we are expecting. With OM Group’s 91-percent contract renewal rate, 64-percent contract growth rate, and a 225-percent revenue growth during this challenging year, Aaron has his work cut out for him.
In the past year alone, we landed a spot on the AFWERX contract just as the COVID shutdowns began. Then we were alerted to our successful bid on the NAVFAC IDIQ as the year wound down and the vaccine was beginning to be distributed. With this growth brings the great responsibility to do our part in maintaining government continuity. We have no doubt, no matter what this coming year brings, you – our valued team members – will adapt and grow and deal with it gracefully while delivering on the mission for our customers.
As we said earlier, 2020 has taught us that work is not the only reason we enjoyed going to the office. We miss bonding with you over food. We miss hearing about your families. We miss the Ugly Sweater Competition!
In the spirit of our cherished in-person gatherings, OM Group used our monthly birthday celebration budget to help support Suzi’s Deli. We bought hundreds of meals from the deli to help it stay open, and donated them to the Reston Hospital front-line workers to thank them for their dedication, knowing they barely stopped to eat. As a company, we have come together to donate an estimated $25,000, including more than 22,000 meals, to multiple causes during the past year. These donations helped address food insecurity (Feeding America, Capital Area Food Bank) and social justice (ACLU, Equal Justice Initiative, NAACP, Southern Poverty Law Center), as well as causes that are personally significant to some of you such as Cancer Research (Adding Candles), Stop Soldier Suicide, and the American Heart Association.
With your generosity in mind, we would like to begin 2021 with goals for OM Group that look beyond the numbers – goals to reset, reflect and renew.
RESET from the stress of last year by acknowledging the toll it has taken and making a concerted effort to create new routines. REFLECT on the events of the past year and what we have learned about ourselves, our coworkers and our place in the world, and then grow from it. RENEW our spirit to move forward with an attitude of kindness and compassion towards ourselves and others.
Each and every one of you made a significant contribution to our success this past year. You should be proud of yourselves. We certainly are!
Sincerely,
Sowmya and Sangita
